Like / Want / Have
This UNIT looks at the SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE and aims to teach questions with ‘What’ as well as NOUN categories, ‘What ..color/fruit/drink/animal do you …? YELLOW students mainly focus (but are not limited to) the verb ‘LIKE’ eg. ‘What ….. do you like?’ while ORANGE students also cover ‘WANT’ and ‘HAVE.’ Eg. ‘What ….. do you like/want/have?’ Finally we look at the tricky concept of the 3rd person SIMPLE PRESENT, where we have to add an ‘S’ to the verb. WE have nicknamed this the ‘S-Rule’. This is not a main focus of the UNIT as it will be covered in GREEN BOOK 3. The main point is to give the students slow and gradual exposure to this R-Rule concept.

3) Introduction to the 'S'-Rule.
The last 2 pages of the UNIT aim to preview a difficult concept that will be taught later in Green Book 3. In the simple present tense we have to add an ‘s’ to the verb if the pronoun is ‘HE, SHE or IT’. eg. ‘I like apples, He likes apples.’ We’ve nicknamed this, ‘The S Rule.’ While not a major focus for these young learners, we want them to have early exposure to it, so that they may learn it over time.

From January 2024 - A new game is recommended here!
The paper manuals will be updated in time. The OLD game, ‘#CTQ-05# -CAT-Q- Q&A – Third Person’ was too difficult for young students. It was difficult to keep track of who was asking who about whom, especially once players had already ‘won’ and were now out of the game.
BIG GRID MEMORY ATTACK
INSTEAD, let’s play #GRD-13# – ‘BIG GRID MEMORY ATTACK’ using the same, ‘#YEL-104# -CAT-Q’ cards.- Create a 4 x 4 grid. Four CHARATERS at the TOP; ‘He’, ‘She’, ‘He’, ‘She’, and four VERBS down the side ‘eat’ drink’, ‘play’, ‘watch’. Place appropriate cards in the grid face down. You’ll need to write what these ‘potential answers’ are on the board, eg. the four drinks, food, sports and T.V shows. TEAM A asks a random question to Team B, eg. ‘What does he drink?’ pointing to the card in question. TEAM B guesses, ‘He drinks cola.’ Reveal to all and check the answer, if correct they get a point. If not, no point. Either way, the card is always left face down on the grid. They’ll soon start to memorize what everything is, so the trick to ask a question that you hope the opposition won’t know the answer to. Highest score wins.
BASEBALL SCORING OPTION – You could start with the cards face up. Both teams get 30 secs to 1 minute to memorize everything. Then put them face down. Now they ask each other questions, as above. The first team to get 3 strikes is out and loses.
